The presentation is the final phase of the study of Joyce which was done
- first by reading Dubliners so that my students could react to the work without the 'bias' of a scholar's/critic''s approach (which is what I normally like my classes to do)
- then by studying the cultural (social and historical background) of the author
- last by reading what our textbooks and anthologies reported on the writer.
A few crucial stories from
- Dubliners
or passages from
- Ulysses
were analysed in class to appreciate the innovations and the evolution of Joyce's technique (and also comparing the original version to the Italian one).
All the while the students were invited to bring their own opinion and contributions to the works we were reading.
- Finally this presentation was produced (the literary expertise is mine, the technological is theirs) with the aim of pointing out the main features of Joyce's literary output, personality and impact on the world's literature and culture.
In our opinion the presentantion is best appreciated as the final step (round-up) to the study of the author himself.
